L’album di 16 tracce include solo alcune delle innumerevoli canzoni che Prince ha registrato nel suo periodo prolifico dell’1985-1987, che vide lo scioglimento della band The Revolution, la costruzione del suo innovativo complesso di registrazione, Paisley Park, e la creazione (e infine abbandono) degli album Dream Factory, Camille, e Crystal Ball.
Questo 25 settembre, The Prince Estate *, in partnership con Warner Records, ristamperà Sign O’ The Times in fisico e in digitale, con l’album rimasterizzato per la prima volta, e con 63 tracce inedite, insieme all’inedito video concerto della performance leggendaria di Prince tratta dal suo archivio che testimonia la sua incredibile creatività dell’epoca.

La Super Deluxe Edition “regala” (non esattamente in termini economici) ai fan tutto il materiale audio che Prince ha pubblicato ufficialmente nel 1987, con 45 inedite tracce studio registrate tra maggio 1979 e luglio 1987, e la registrazione di una performance live completa del concerto del 20 giugno 1987 per il Sign O’ The Times Tour presso lo Stadio Galgenwaard a Utrecht, nei Paesi Bassi.
Inoltre, sia il CD che il vinile includeranno un DVD con il concerto benefico inedito presso Paisley Park del 31 dicembre 1987, che è l’ultima performance del Sign O’ The Times Tour e la sua unica collaborazione con la leggenda del jazz Miles Davis.
La Super Deluxe Edition include anche un book da 120 pagine contenente testi dell’epoca scritti a mano da Prince, con le hits “U Got The Look,” “I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man,” e “Hot Thing,”. Contiene anche foto iconiche dell’era scattate dal principale fotografo di Prince tra la metà degli anni ’80 ai primi ‘90, Jeff Katz, e immagini di archivio.
La Super Deluxe Edition book si completa con delle note di amici di Prince, quali Dave Chappelle (con il fotografo Mathieu Bitton) e Lenny Kravitz; l’ingegnere audio Susan Rogers; Daphne A. Brooks, William R. Kenan, Jr. Professore di African American Studies, American Studies e Women’s, Gender & Sexuality Studies alla Yale University; l’autore radio di Minneapolis Andrea Swensson, host del Podcast ufficiale di Prince; e lo studioso di Prince Duane Tudahl.
I fan hanno la possibilità di accaparrarsi un incredibile pezzo da collezione, ordinando un box set di singoli, disponibile solo in 1,987. Contiene l’audio rimasterizzato di tutti i quattro singoli ufficiali pubblicati nel 1987, i due singoli ufficiali di Warner Records, e un nuovo singolo con due versioni della traccia inedita “Witness 4 The Prosecution”. Il set si può già ordinare, esclusivamente negli store ufficiali Prince Store e Third Man Records Store, e sarà spedito prima del 14 agosto.
“Witness 4 The Prosecution (Version 1)” è disponibile ora su tutte le piattaforme digitali. Inclusa nel Super Deluxe set, la traccia è stata registrata il 14 marzo 1986 presso i Prince’s Galpin Blvd. home studio ed era stata pensata per essere inclusa nell’album Dream Factory.
